A History of Sound Design

Bob McCarthy Meyer Sound Director of System Optimisation

Join us for a very special session from Corporate Members Meyer Sound. Listen as Bob McCarthy tells us a tale of the history of amplified sound in musical theatre.

Bob will focus on the West End, Broadway and elsewhere, as someone who has been there from the ancient times to the present day!

A story of the evolution of the tools and techniques of theatrical sound system design and optimisation ranging from the Altec Lancing Era, Primordial SIM® and onwards to modern times. If you think you have it hard working with the tools we have now, we can give you some perspective on that!

Bob McCarthy’s involvement in the field of sound system optimisation began in 1984 with the development of Source Independent Measurement (SIM®) with John Meyer at Meyer Sound Laboratories. Since that time, he has been an active force in developing the tools and techniques of modern sound system optimisation, including three generations of SIM, hundreds of tunings, training seminars and publications.

His award-winning book, Sound Systems: Design and Optimisation, considered the foremost text in the optimisation field, has sold over 13,000 copies in three languages.
